Are You Feeling Overwhelmed and Exhausted? Try this!

During September, change gathers up our fashions, our holidays, school buses carting children back to school, vacations are over, and we are back to the full dive into the rest of the year. Certainly, our daily experiences seep into our sleep quality and rest is welcomed to settle up some of the challenges we have faced.

While the transition may not always be simple, your ability to settle into a relaxed state, can make the difference from exhaustion to energetic and overwhelm to an “I got this” attitude.

Well-being can be a catch all phrase to include life satisfaction, contentment, and good health.  Your holistic self includes your spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical life arenas that impact each-other. Managing each of these areas is necessary as we do the juggle dance, we women do.

  • Are you being intentional in navigating your well-being?  
  • Are you taking the time needed to give yourself the best opportunity of feeling energetic and peaceful?   

Understanding how sleep provides an excellent mouthpiece for the total nature of your well-being can save you a lot of time in creating personal change.

For example, what is your habit of screen use before bed? Are you needing to check emails, and social media, to be sure you haven’t missed anything?  As you know, blue light use is very stimulating, and it is best to put that device away at least an hour before you plan to sleep.  Likewise, reviewing your day or your upcoming schedule is also not a good idea.  

Rather consider a meditation practice, a soothing bath, a visualization practice, deep relaxation exercises or a good book.

The idea is to shift out of the habits that feed overwhelm and move into options that bring sleep rituals into the intentional mix of your day.

Sleep hygiene is basically a good plan to address how you make sure you get enough rest regularly. Having the right room temperature, a darkened room, quiet, and making certain that your eating and drinking habits support good sleep quality. Regular and restful sleep helps our minds perform their best during the day.  With 33% of the world struggling with insomnia, is it any wonder our world is stressed and overwhelmed?

The good news is well-being is significantly positively impacted by your sleep and you have the tools to improve this arena.  

Firstly, assess your present sleep habits and see if you would benefit with from some tweaking. Taking into account that there are exceptions to daily routines, be kind to yourself in your assessment.  We all struggle with overwhelm and stress, but it’s not the only road we get to travel.  

Your journey of well-being begins with a thoughtful decision to take the first steps of recognizing where you are now and where you would like to go.  

You probably already know what needs to change and today is a good day to get started.
